Mikael blinked. For a moment, he was unsure of what to expect; would he need to fake remembering something? But no, gradually a single word - a name, as a matter of fact - began to float into his mind.

“Car…” he began. “Carraway. Carraway, Carraway. My name.”

“Well that certainly went further back than I expected. Was that your human name?” She nodded now, proud of her work. “Good. If you can remember something like that, everything else should come to you in no time.”

“I understand. Come closer,” she said, holding her hands out in front of her. “I will only need to touch you once. After that your stronger memories will slowly return to you. Are you sure you’re ready?”

“That all sounds rather sketchy, don’t you think?” Mikael responded smoothly, but inside he was roiling with emotions he knew he wasn’t meant to have. Finally, he nodded his head once. “Yes, I’m certain. Do what you need to do.”

She smiled grimly before making contact with his temples. Closing her eyes, she focused on sorting through his memories. Maybe it would help if she pushed those long memories of hell further back? They were making everything else cloudy. Yes. That should do the trick. “There we go. It won’t all come back to you at once, but it should be easier now. What do you remember?”
